You can share your location with your friends on Snapchat by applying location filters to your snapshots, but that’s not all you can do. Snapchat’s Snap Map offers a new way to share your location.

What is the Snap Map of Snapchat?

The Snap Map of Snapchat is an interactive map that you can use to share your location with friends. You can also see friends on the map when they share their location with you. If your friends have integrated their Bitmoji account with Snapchat, they will be displayed as their Bitmoji characters on the map.

The Snap Map also has a community-based feature “Our Story,” which allows you to add your own snapshots from one location to a collection of stories for that specific location. Then, when someone goes to see that collection of stories from the Snap Map, you will see all the snapshots of each user who contributed to Our Story for that location.

How to access Snap Map in the Snapchat application

There are three ways to get the Snap Map in the Snapchat app for iOS and Android, and they are all quite simple.

Pinch your fingers to zoom out from the camera, Friends or Discover: Place your index finger and thumb together on any of the three main screens in the outer area of the screen and drag them slowly, as if you were moving something away on the screen. The map will appear on the screen.

Touch the magnifying glass at the top of any screen to access the search screen: a small version of the Snap Map will appear below the search function on the search screen. Touch to see it in full screen.

Touch a Map story on the Discover screen: Snap Map stories can appear here so you can see them. Touch any map history to see it.

If you ever want to change your location settings later:

· Touch your profile icon in the upper left corner,

· Touch the gear icon on the top right to access its settings

· Scroll to the section Who can and can See my location.

How to use Snap Map in the Snapchat application

Now that you know how to access the Snap Map, you can start using it. Here are all the different ways you can take advantage of it.

Check your friends’ locations: Friends who have chosen to share their location with you will appear on the Snap Map. Touch a friend to start an instant chat with them or press and hold to go to their profile.

Find a friend’s location: Do you wonder where in the world a friend might be? Touch Search at the top of the screen to search for a specific friend on the map.

Use the Heat Map to see the Shared Gaps of Others: You can use your finger to drag the map and look for splashes of color on the map, which shows where people are doing from. Blue means that there are only a few snapshots, while red means there are many snapshots. Touch a colored area to see the shared snapshots from there.

See hot-spot stories: Exploring the colored parts of the map will reveal the collections of stories created for extremely popular places and events. Touch a very popular part of the map first to reveal the circular collection of stories, then touch the collection of stories to see the stories added to it.

Add your own snapshots to our story: if you are taking photos from a location with your own collection of stories, you can select Our Story on the Send to tab after taking a photo. You can also touch + Personalize at the top of the Send to tab to create your own Geo story, which allows you to share it with people nearby.

How to use the instant map from the web

Snapchat’s Snap Map can also be accessed from a web browser. Similar to how you would use your finger to drag the map in the mobile application, you can use the cursor to select and drag the map to other locations. You can also use your mouse or trackpad to zoom in and out.

Select a colored part or any circular history collection that appears to see the snapshots. A window will appear on the map and it will automatically reproduce all the snapshots shared by people in that specific location.

How to disable your shared location on the Snap map

If you have decided that you prefer not to share your location on the Snap Map, you can disable the location sharing setting. To do this, access the Snap Map by pressing your fingers on the screen and dragging them in, then touch the gear icon with the ghost in the upper right corner.

On the next Settings tab, tap the Phantom Mode button to activate it. When Phantom Mode is enabled, no one can see your location, not even your friends.
