My closed account keeps sending spam

Once a Yahoo mail account is closed, you cannot send mail, but in some cases, it may appear as if you were sending spam. If you have a closed account that appears to be spam, the cause is the forgery of the email.

What is a fake email?

Fake email seems to be sent from your email address, but it is actually sent from another email account. Email providers cannot prevent their names from being forged, but if people are receiving emails from their closed email address, they can report it.

Report a fake email

  • Ask the person who received the fake email to send it.
  • See the full header of the email.
  • From the last "Received" line of the full header, write down the source IP address. This IP address belongs to the Internet service provider (ISP) of the sender.
  • Run an IP search through a site like Who.is to see which ISP provides the sender with access to the Internet.
  • Contact the sender's ISP to report the email that you think was false.
