Search by people, things, and places in your photos.

Search your photos for anything. For example, you can search:

  1. A wedding you attended last summer.
  2. Your best friend
  3. A pet
  4. Your favorite city

Note: Some functions are not available in all countries.

Instruction to Search by People, things, and places On Computer

Search your photos

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com/search.
  2. In the box at the top, enter what you want to find, for example:
  • New York
  • A name or nickname, if you have tagged people or pets.

Find photos of a person or pet and apply a tag

To find and manage your photos more easily, you can apply a tag to people or pets recognized by Google Photos.

Note: this function is not available in all countries.

Step 1: find the photos of a person or pet

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com/search.
  2. In the list of recent or suggested searches, you will see a row of faces. Click on a face to see photos of them.
  • To see more faces, click Next Next.

If you don't see a row of faces:

  1. The function is not available in your country.
  2. You turned it off in the settings. Learn to activate face grouping.
  3. No group of faces has been recognized.

Note: To search for photos of a person without searching, click Albums and then People.

Step 2: Apply a label.

  1. At the top of a group of faces, click Add a name.
  2. Enter a name or nickname.

You can search with that tag using the search box. Only you can see the private face labels you choose, even if you share those photos.

Enable or disable face grouping

You can stop grouping similar faces in your photos.

If you turn off face grouping, you delete:

  1. Face groups in your account
  2. Face models used to create those groups of faces.
  3. Facial tags you created

To turn it off or on:

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Next to "Group similar faces," click Show more Down arrow.
  3. Enable or disable face grouping.

To turn off face grouping for pets only, uncheck Show pets with people.
